1920s American Heros
The 1920’s were considered the “Golden Age” of sports, the
reason for this was after fighting a long brutal war Americans were eager to
begin to enjoy themselves again. The three major sports that took the U.S by
storm were, baseball, college football, and boxing. Babe Ruth, who is considered
by many the most famous athlete of the century, he was known best for breaking
records for his home runs. During his era, players would hit about twelve home
runs a season, not Ruth; he had hit 54 in a season. Then the next season he
broke his own record getting 59 home runs in just one season.
During this decade, football was mostly a college game. Notre Dame
Football dominated most every year.
Many people during this time were looked up to the team as a whole, the
team was considered heroes. There
were also more American heroes that were not athletes such as Charles
Lindbergh. Charles Lindbergh was a
pilot, the first pilot the fly across the Atlantic Ocean.
He was also born in Detroit, Michigan. Many people looked up to him
because he changed the way people looked at flying. He changed it from dangerous
to a safe travel resource.
