Jazz Music
F. Scott Fitzgerald who called it the 1920s the jazz age. Jazz emerged in the south
and Midwest particularity in New Orleans where different cultures and traditions
came together and influenced each other. Jazz is a musical form based on
improvisation. Early jazz artist won fame playing in story Ville a section of
New Orleans where expressions of the African American experience where
displayed. A truly indigenous American musical from the form jazz was more than
a musical style. It was a part of the prohibition era played in speakeasies and
night spots in New York, St. Louis, and Los Angeles. The jazz era was truly a
symbol of the roaring twenties. Also jazz musicians creatively recombine
different forms of music including African American blues and ragtime and
European – based popular music.
